CS Scholarships

Computer Science Scholarships 2009-2010

Scholarships requiring demonstrated financial need must include FAFSA information, for which Western's priority filing deadline is 2/15/09. Computer Science scholarships at Western Washington University are for WWU students only; deadline for scholarship applications is April 20, 2009.

The availability of, and final amounts for, some 2009-2010 scholarships cannot be determined at this time. Only one application is needed.  The Department will determine which scholarships you are elegible for.

Paul Woodring Scholarship
 
The College of Arts and Sciences awards one Paul Woodring Scholarship each academic year.  The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who will be eiether a junior or senior during the academic year of the award and who in the judgment of faculty members who know him/her, seems most likely to make substantial contributions to mankind as a result of his/her education.
Each department nominates one student to complete for the scholarship.  An application is due to the department by April 20th, 2009 and the recipient will be selected by May 20th.
Applications can be picked up from the Computer Science Department office, CF 495.
 
Elizabeth M. Murphy Scholarship
The Elizabeth M. Murphy scholarship shall be awarded to women who are declared majors in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, ET, Mathematics, or Physics.  Applicant must be an undergraduate student.
Applicants should have deomonstrated financial need.  Preference will be given to single women who have dependent children.  Awardees must make satisfactory academic progress toward a degree. 
This is a $4000.00 scholarship.

Marion VanNostrand Scholarship
 
The Marion VanNostrand scholarship shall be awarded to women who are declared majors in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, ET, Mathematics, or Physics.  Applicant must be an undergraduate student.
Applicants should have demonstrated finanacial need.  Preference will be given to single women who have dependent children.  Awardees must make satisfactory academic progress toward a degree.
This is a $4000.00 scholarship.

Danny Mason Microsoft Computer Science Scholarship
 
This scholarship was established by a Computer Science Alumni/Microsoft employee.  This scholarship is intended for an undergraduate Computer Science major at WWU.  The candidate will have created a plan for completion of the major within a year of application for the award and furnish a resume showing project-related computer science design skill and management, as well as academic achievement and potential for career success.
 
Oscar Edwin Olson Science Scholarship
 
The Oscar Edwin Olson Scholarship shall be awarded to students who are undergraduate students with declared majors in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology or Physics/Astronomy.  Eligible students must be children of single, divorced or widowed parents.  They must also be eligible for Financial Aid.

Anthony G. Vallot, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in the memory of Anthony G. Vallot, Jr. who was a 1987 graduate of Western and who earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science. This scholarship is intended for an undergraduate student majoring in computer science at WWU. Eligibility criteria include financial need, aptitude in computer science, and motivation to succeed.

Computer Science Alumni, TAG, and Friends Award

This scholarship was established in 1991 and is supported by contributions from computer science alumni, friends, and the Technology Alliance Group. This scholarship is intended for a WWU undergraduate computer science major who has shown outstanding academic achievement.

David W. Cole Endowment Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1996 by David W. Cole, a former member of the Board of Trustees of Western Washington University. This scholarship is intended for a WWU undergraduate or graduate majoring in computer science with a minimum GPA of 3.0. A demonstrated interest in computer science through work-oriented use of computers or a special project may substitute for a declared major in computer science. Preference may be given to, but not restricted to, students from Clallam County, Washington.

Lars and Elaine Giusti CS Scholarship

This scholarship, created by Lars and Elaine Giusti, is intended as inspiration for CS majors with high potential.

Requirements:

  1. CS major at WWU
  2. American citizen, Washington state resident
  3. Minimum 3.0 GPA
  4. Financial need as demonstrated by FAFSA
  5. First-generation college student
  6. Demonstrated commitment to CS career by submitting essay on the impact of computers on people's lives 10/15/20 years into the future
  7. Letter of recommendation from instructor.

Kaiser-Borsari Educational Foundation Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in 1997 by the Kaiser-Borsari Educational Foundation. This scholarship is intended for an undergraduate student majoring in computer science at WWU. Eligibility criteria include high academic potential combined with creativity and leadership qualities, and demonstrated financial need. FAFSA required.

Mark Lockwood Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in the memory of Mark Lockwood by friends and family. It is intended for a Western Washington University junior or senior Computer Science major (including transfer students) with high academic achievement. Award is renewable for a second year of academic scholarship standards are maintained by the student.
